Christmas Eve

God be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to God.
Let us give thanks to God, our God!
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
We give you thanks, God Most Holy.
We praise your name, Adonai.
We celebrate, this night,
your love for all of Creation.
Shouting, “Alleluia!”
Singing, “Gloria in excelsis Deo!”
Praying, “Peace on earth, goodwill to all.”
To all.
For you created all that is.
your love gave every thing its ability to live.
Through your Word all things came into being.
Earth, Water, Air, Fir.
All living creatures… including us!
Thank you, loving God.
With life you gave us time.
With time you gave us change.
With change you gave us choice.
Sometimes we have chosen to walk with you.
Other times we have chosen to push you away.
In all of those times – past and present –
you have remained true…
calling out so that we do not forget who we are –
whose we are.
Always celebrating when we finally return.
Thank you, loving God.
In time, you sent the Christ to be with us.
You sent the Christ to teach us.
You sent the Christ to help us to be who we were created to be.
In the infant, in the teacher, the the healer, in the messiah,
we were offered new life…
life abundant…
life eternal.
The Christmas gift.
So… with all of creation, we lift our voices in thanksgiving and joy,
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of love and life.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of God!
Hosanna in the highest!

As we gather at this table, we remember Jesus’ table.
We remember the friends gathered round.
We remember the celebration… and the sadness.
We remember the love.
In that remembering we cry, “Come, Holy Spirit.”
Come, Holy Spirit.
In that remembering the church sings, “Come, Holy Spirit.”
Come, Holy Spirit.
In that remembering all creation shouts, “Come, Holy Spirit!”
Come, Holy Spirit!
Come, Holy Spirit…
for you fill this bread and this cup with your presence.
Come, Holy Spirit…
for you fill all with your Love.
Come, Holy Spirit… come.
(The bread is broken.)
The bread of life – given for us all.
Remember his love.
(The wine is poured.)
The covenant of love – shared with us all.
Remember his gift.
(The elements are lifted.)
The Bread, the Cup, the Spirit…
God’s Christmas gift for all.

Jesus’ Prayer

Come… for the table is prepared – and our cup overflows.
