For the Sunday before Remembrance Day

Call to Gather
One: This is a day of Remembrance.
All: not of “guts and glory,”
but of tears and loss.

One: For when our only choice is war,
All: then we have failed
Failed to be peace-bringers,
peace-keepers,
peace-lovers.

One: Let us stand in the face of oppression,
where we must.
All: Let us hold fast to those who have
lived the horrors of war.

One: As people of God,
as ones who cry, “Peace. Peace. Peace.”
All: let the torch we carry
be the light of the Prince of Peace.

One: In its light and with our worship,
All: may we, and the world,
find a little more healing,
a little more hope,
a little more love.

Opening Prayer
O God,
in this moment
we stand with the veterans of every war,
of every place and time.
Not only with the armed forces,
but with the innocents,
the ones caught in the lands of death.
Help us, O God.
Help us to do everything we can
to make this world a place
where the engines of death,
never need to move,
and the people who drive them
could always stand at rest.
Help us, O God.
We ask it.
Amen.

A Time of Memorial:

*Minute of Silence
*The Rouse
*Act of Remembrance
One: They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
we will remember them.
All: We will remember them.
