Proper 20 – Year A

For the bountiful earth,
for the beautiful sky!
Give thanks and call on God’s name.
For times of turmoil,
for times of calm.
Give thanks and call on God’s name.
For friend, for stranger,
for parent and for child!
Give thanks and call on god’s Name.
For time alone,
for time together –
give thanks and call on God’s name!

Proper 18 – Year C

Taken from the earth…
Like lumps of clay.
Made from the soil…
like lumps of clay.
Moulded and fashioned…
like lumps of clay.
Worked and re-worked…
like lumps of clay.
People of God, look around you!
Look and see what God has made –
your sisters and brothers…
creations of beauty!
The birds of the air,
the fish of the sea…
creations of joy!
Every star, every planet,
every atom, every quark…
creations of love!
As part of this love-given, joy filled,
beautiful creation –
let us give thanks to the Potter
who invites us into being.
Alleluia. Alleluia! ALLELUIA!

In the Name of God:
Parent, Creator, Giver-Of-Life…
We gather in this place.
In the Holy Name of Jesus the Christ:
Child, Redeemer, Teacher, Friend…
We gather in this place.
In the Holy Name of the Spirit:
Holy Ghost, Sustainer, Daily Guide…
We gather in this place.
In the Holy Name of the One who is Three
and the Three who are One…

Proper 7 – Year C

In the beginning.
In the beginning!
God created everything there is.
Everything?
Yes – everything.
Out of chaos God made order
and out of the order came everything:
the sea, the sky,
the plants, the animals,
the fish, the birds,
and us!
God created us!

God created us,
that we might be caretakers of creation,
in union with God and with all.

We gather,
to remember our responsibilities.
And in that remembering,
we worship God.

Proper 7 – Year B

There are times when the seas of our lives
are calm and life-giving –
and Christ call us to “put out into deep water.”
There are times when the seas of our lives
are turbulent and terrifying –
and Christ calls us to “put out into deep water.”
There are times when the seas of our lives
threaten to overwhelm our tiny vessels –
and Christ calls us to “put out into deep water.”
And we go…
Where Christ calls us –
to be with all God’s people – in good times and bad.
To go to the places of deep water –
in friendship, in love, in truth.
To go knowing that we are God’s beloved children.

Then let us “put out into deep water”,
knowing that we go with God!

Easter 5 – Year B

Like pine seedlings, just coming out of the ground…
our joy begins to grow.
Like a willow’s roots stretching out under the ground…
our compassion reaches into the world.
Like roses with deadwood pruned back forcing new growth,
our sins are forgiven.
Thanks be to God,
who does such wonderful things!

Epiphany 7 – Year B

“Your sins are forgiven!”
Pardon me?
“Your sins are forgiven!”
What do you mean?
“Your sins are forgiven!”
Who are you to tell us this?
I’m not telling you.
Christ is.
God is!
“Your sins are forgiven!”
Our sins are forgiven?
Alleluia!
Thanks be to God!

Epiphany 5 – Year B (based on Isaiah 40.21-31)

Who is it that does the most wonderful things?
Do you not know?
Who is it that looks upon the smallest of creatures?
Have you not heard?
Who is it that gives guidance to the rulers,
great and small?
Have you not been told from the very beginning?
Who is it that renews our strength?
Who is it that causes us to soar like eagles?
Who is it that carries us through our lives?
Do you knot know?
Have you not heard?
Have you not been told from the very beginning?
It is our God who lives these wonderful things!
