For Transfiguration Sunday – Mark 9.2-9

(This was the beginning of an eight week series on discipleship. This Sunday was focused on “Uplifted through conversation with God.”)

Call to Gather:
One: God touches the world,
All: and the world changes.
One: God touches us,
All: and we are transformed.
One: In the brightest of day,
All: in the deepest of night,
One: on mountain,
All: in valley,
One: everywhere.
All: In this time, together,
we invite God
to open our eyes
to the transformation
of our lives.

One: And through the change –
All: we worship God.
Alleluia!

Opening Prayer:
In the rush of the wind,
in the laugh of a child,
in the beat of our hearts,
speak to us, God.
In the purr of a kitten,
in the lap of the waves,
in the warmth of our hands,
speak to us, Christ.
In the cry of the moment,
in the dance of our feet,
in the crackle of the flame,
speak to us, Holy Spirit.
We are listening.
Amen.

Epiphany 6 – Year B – 2 Kings 5:1-14

You invite us into many places, God.
You invite us into relationships,
you invite us into conversation,
you invite us into action.
When the invitation is difficult to accept,
give us strength, and wonder, and hope.
When the invitation is to an easy way –
help us to accept and walk on!
In Christ’s name we ask it, amen.

For An Annual Congregational Meeting

Would you help us, God?
Would you help us to look back on our life together?
Would you help us to see how you’ve lifted us up?
Would you help us to see what we’re to do next?
Would you help us to be
Christ’s people in this place?
Would you help us, God?
Because we really need your help.
In Christ’s name, we ask it. Amen.

Epiphany 2 – Year B – 1 Samuel 3:1-20

You speak in unexpected places,
and with unexpected voices, God.
And we aren’t always sure
how to listen.
We aren’t always sure
who to listen to.
We aren’t always sure
if we’re really hearing you.
Be blunt with us, please.
Be clear.
Give us the challenge
of loving you,
of loving the other,
of loving ourselves.
And help us to live it out!
Because you are God
who loves us all,
even when we don’t know
where to turn.
In Jesus’ name we ask it.
Amen!

Christmas Candle Lighting

Call to Gather/Christmas Candle:
One: Wait. Watch. Wonder. Waken.
All: This is the coming of our Christ!
One: Wait. Watch. Wonder. Waken.
All: This is the moment of our God!
One: And, now, we celebrate!
All: And, now, we celebrate!
One: But what are we celebrating?
Is it just the birth of a child?
Is it just the something that happened
2000 years ago?
Is it just an old, old story?
Or is it more?
Are we celebrating
the birth in our lives,
the messengers of God,
the people who do the jobs
no others are willing to do,
the mother who hopes against hope,
the father who watches and wonders?
Are we celebrating Christ now?
Are we celebrating Emmanuel –
God-with-us?
All: We are!
One: Where are the people who are celebrating!?
All: Here!
One: What are you celebrating?
All: A baby.
A child.
The Christ.

One: When will you celebrate?
All: Now.
Tomorrow.
Every day of our lives!

One: How will you celebrate?
All: Living hope.
Living love.
Living these things
with neighbour and stranger.

One: With God?
All: With God’s love, filling our lives!
One: Alleluia.
All: Alleluia!
ALLELUIA! AMEN!

Candle Lighting Hymn: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”

Opening Prayer:
All: With Christmas joy,
alive in our lives,
we come to you, O God!
Wondering at the stars,
listening to the angels,
trembling with the shepherds,
knowing that you are with us!
Knowing that you are with the world!
Alleluia!
Alleluia!
Alleluia!
Amen!

Advent 3 – Advent Candle Lighting – Luke 1:39-55 – “Wonder”

Call to Gather/Advent Candles:
One: Wait. Watch. Wonder. Waken.
All: This is the Advent of our Christ!
One: Wait. Watch. Wonder. Waken.
All: This is the Advent of our God!
One: And so we wonder.
All: And so we wonder.
One: We wonder where mystery has gone.
We wonder where miracle is hidden.
We wonder if we still have the ability to wonder.
To hope.
To dream.
We wonder if the song of a woman
born to poverty and powerlessness,
but carrying in her body and arms
One who would change the world,
could be true.
Today.
Now.
Where are the people who wonder?
All: Here.
One: What are you wondering on?
All: A baby.
A child.
The Christ.

One: How long will you wonder?
All: 20 days.
Nine months.
All our lives.

One: How will you wonder?
All: With hope.
With love.
With each other.

One: With God?
All: With God’s love, filling our lives!
One: Alleluia.
All: Alleluia!
ALLELUIA! AMEN!

Candle Lighting song: “Come Let us Walk” Music: Bruce Harding (c) 2010. Words: Isaiah 2:5

Opening Prayer:
All: Turn us, God.
Turn us around
to see the wonder
of your Presence.
In each other,
in neighbour,
in the stranger.
Turn us, God.
Turn us around.
Turn us upside down.
As we wait.
As we watch.
As we wonder.
Make us new,
in your Love.
In Christ’s name we ask it!
May it be so!

All: This is the Advent of our God!
One: And so we watch
All: And so we watch.
One: We watch a world that speaks without listening.
We watch a world that seems filled with despair.
We watch a world that seeks for something.
We watch a world in which we live,
and act, and have our being.
Is that all we see?
All: We see a world in which God moves.
We see a world embracing love.
We see a world dancing with the Spirit.
We see a world opening its eyes.

One: What are you looking for?
All: A baby.
A child.
The Christ.

One: How long will you watch?
All: 28 days.
Nine months.

All: You’ve sent prophets, God.
You’ve sent grandmothers and grandfathers.
You’ve sent teachers and leaders.
You’ve sent people to speak love.
You’ve sent us.
Help us to watch.
Help us to see.
Help us to understand.
Help us to feel.
Help us to know,
in the birth of a child,
in the wisdom of a teen,
in the laughter of an elder,
that you are with your world.
Always.
Help us, O God!
